Torah Tech

“Torah Tech is a post-high-school gap-year program in Tel Aviv for English-speaking young men who want a serious Torah experience but also want to begin developing professionally. The program combines daily Beit Midrash learning with internships in Israeli tech, business and other companies. The schedule is roughly split between the two: students intern three days a week and have full days of Torah learning on the other two days. The Beit Midrash is led by Rav Shlomo Chayen, with a focus on Torah learning, mussar and how Torah fits into life outside the Beit Midrash. Students live independently in Tel Aviv apartments and are expected to be mature and responsible enough to manage both a yeshiva environment and a real workplace. The atmosphere is geared towards guys who are looking for something different from a traditional yeshiva year. There is a strong emphasis on independence, professional development, exposure to Israeli society and building a life as a Torah-observant young man in the modern world. The program also includes trips, chessed and group activities. It is probably a good fit for a boy who wants to grow in Torah but knows that sitting in the Beit Midrash all day is not what he is looking for. It is less suited to someone looking for a traditional, highly structured yeshiva where the main focus is intensive full-time learning.”
