Mechinat Ruach Hanegev

“Mechinat Ruach HaNegev is a gap-year Mechina in Retamim in the Negev for young men looking for a year that combines Torah learning with living and contributing within an Israeli community. It is aimed at motivated and independent students from a range of Jewish educational backgrounds, with a strong Religious Zionist outlook. The program combines Beit Midrash learning, chavruta, tefillah and classes in areas such as Gemara, Halacha and Tanach with volunteering, community projects, farming, tiyulim and seminars exploring Israeli society. The atmosphere is young, warm and community-focused, with students becoming part of the Retamim community and its local life. A central idea of the Mechina is that Torah is a way of life and should extend beyond the Beit Midrash. Students have a personalised learning program and the opportunity to explore their religious and personal direction while preparing for the next stage of life. The program also has an IDF preparation track for students planning to draft, including physical, mental and spiritual preparation. The year is therefore less of a traditional full-time yeshiva experience and more of an integrated Torah, community, Israel and personal-development year.”
