Torat Har Etzion (The Gush)

“Yeshivat Har Etzion, commonly known as “The Gush,” is a Religious-Zionist hesder yeshiva in Alon Shevut, Gush Etzion. It combines intensive Torah study with army service for Israeli students, while its Overseas Program brings students mainly from North America, England, South Africa, Australia and other countries for a year or two after high school. The yeshiva describes its approach as combining “deep spirituality and intense religious striving” with “moderation and openness,” and it is known for its strong emphasis on Gemara and broad Torah learning, independent thinking and intellectual engagement. Overseas students learn alongside Israeli students in the main Beit Midrash and, when their Hebrew level allows, join Israeli shiurim. The atmosphere is serious about learning but warm, open and based on independence and camaraderie. Graduates include rabbis, educators, community leaders and rashei yeshiva, while many overseas students continue to university and later return to the Gush for further study.”
