Pisga

Jerusalem, Jerusalem

Yeshivas Pisga is a small, customised post-high-school yeshiva year within Ohr Somayach in Jerusalem, designed specifically for boys from South Africa and Australia. Most students come after high school, including boys from Modern Orthodox and traditional Jewish backgrounds, and the program is structured as a gap year focused on building strong Gemara learning skills alongside growth in Torah, middos and personal responsibility. The atmosphere is warm and close-knit, with a small number of students, personal attention from the Rabbeim, weekly one-on-one learning and mentoring, as well as Shabbatons, tiyulim and activities throughout the year. The learning has a clear structure, with morning shiur focused on iyun, afternoon on bekiyus, and regular Halachah, Mussar, Chumash and Nach. Pisga is suited to a boy who wants a serious year of Torah but is coming from the South African or Australian school system rather than the typical anglo school system. The program begins in January to fit the Southern Hemisphere school year. Alumni have gone on to university, further yeshiva and kollel learning, semicha and professional careers.
