Diaspora Yeshiva

Jerusalem, Jerusalem

Diaspora Yeshiva Toras Yisrael is a ba’al teshuva yeshiva on Mount Zion in Jerusalem, founded in 1965 by Rav Mordechai Goldstein. It caters primarily to Jewish men from the Diaspora, from those with little or no Torah background through students with more learning experience. The yeshiva offers a one-year post-high-school Gap Year program as well as longer programs for students who want to continue developing in Torah. Learning includes in-depth Gemara, mussar, yiras Shamayim and personal growth, with the learning level tailored to the individual student. The yeshiva describes its goal as helping students develop an authentic Jewish life and reach their potential in Torah. The current Rosh Yeshiva is HaRav Yitzchak Goldstein, son of the founder and a talmid muvhak of Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch of Slobodka. Rav Dovid Sackton serves as Rosh Mesivta and teaches Gemara B’Iyun, with Rav Shlomo Goldstein as Mashgiach Ruchani and other members of the Goldstein family and staff involved in the learning and personal development of the students. The atmosphere is less of a conventional Israeli yeshiva for students coming from established yeshiva backgrounds and more geared toward young men building or deepening their connection to Torah, with an emphasis on individual growth and developing a personal relationship with Hashem. The Gap Year program also offers the option of earning an accredited BA while learning.
